Idly & dosa

Ingredients for Idly / Dosa Batter

  • Urad Dall – 1 Cup
  • Idly / Dosa rice (Boiled Rice) – 4 Cup
  • Salt Required to Taste

Directions

Process 1

  • Soak urad dal and idly rice separately for at least 3 hours in water.
  • Wash urad dal twice or thrice and add it to the mixer/grinder and let it start to grind.
  • Salt Required to Taste
  • Add 1/4 cup of water and carefully take the dal that are stuck and put it back to grind well (use a spoon)
  • For every 10 minutes sprinkle 1/4 cup of water
  • Grind the dal for about 45-50 minutes
  • Turn off the mixer/grinder and take out the batter in a bowl
  • Wash the rice and start to grind.
  • Add 1/2 cup of water and carefully add the rice that is stuck using a spoon.

Process 2

  • Add water as required to the mixer/grinder to grind smoothly.
  • Grind the rice until fine coarse.
  • Take out the batter in a bowl which we already used for urad dal batter.
  • Add salt and 1/2 cup of water then mix it well with your hand.

Process 3

  • Mix until both urad dal batter and rice batter mix well together.
  • Close the bowl with a lid.
  • Keep the bowl in a warm place for at least 8 hrs.
  • Let the batter ferment overnight and mix well before use.
