Ingredients for Idly / Dosa Batter
- Urad Dall – 1 Cup
- Idly / Dosa rice (Boiled Rice) – 4 Cup
- Salt Required to Taste
Directions
Process 1
- Soak urad dal and idly rice separately for at least 3 hours in water.
- Wash urad dal twice or thrice and add it to the mixer/grinder and let it start to grind.
- Salt Required to Taste
- Add 1/4 cup of water and carefully take the dal that are stuck and put it back to grind well (use a spoon)
- For every 10 minutes sprinkle 1/4 cup of water
- Grind the dal for about 45-50 minutes
- Turn off the mixer/grinder and take out the batter in a bowl
- Wash the rice and start to grind.
- Add 1/2 cup of water and carefully add the rice that is stuck using a spoon.
Process 2
- Add water as required to the mixer/grinder to grind smoothly.
- Grind the rice until fine coarse.
- Take out the batter in a bowl which we already used for urad dal batter.
- Add salt and 1/2 cup of water then mix it well with your hand.
Process 3
- Mix until both urad dal batter and rice batter mix well together.
- Close the bowl with a lid.
- Keep the bowl in a warm place for at least 8 hrs.
- Let the batter ferment overnight and mix well before use.
